HISTORY
In the summer of 1990, Kim Blakey and Debbie Varley put a notice in the Keller Citizen Newspaper of a Quilting Club meeting to be held at the Keller Library. A group of 12 or so ladies showed up to the meeting. Most of us were strangers with a love for quilting. We began meeting once a month and soon outgrew the library. We moved to the Tri County Electric conference room, later to Saint Martin in the Field Episcopal Church.
Our first group quilt was a baby quilt for our youngest member and founder Kim Blakey. In June of 1991, we named our group Bear Creek Quilt Guild. This name was picked to represent all the communities in our area.
We enjoyed being together and quilting.
We took road trips to various quilt shops and the Houston Quilt Show. In 1993, we participated in the United Nations Friendship Quilt traveling show. Our ladies made blocks using Texas fabrics. This quilt traveled around the world with other quilts.
Our first quilt show was in about 1996 at Saint Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church. It was a small show but our quilts were beautiful and Mary Unverzagt won Best of Show!
Charter Members are: Anne Beck, Kim Blakley (Founder), Nancy Blank, Cathy Braunreiter, Barbara Chablee, Jan Gadberry, Penny Maki, Lou Ann Reynolds, Elaine Rice, Dawn Scheffer, Mary Unverszgt, and Debbie Varley (Founder).
